Walnut
Juglans
nigra
 |
Origin
eastern North America
Characteristics
Light weight, exceptional resilience, works easily, stains
and finishes to a high polish
Common Uses
A strong favorite among cabinetmakers
Interesting Facts
Perhaps unfortunately, it is routinely steamed to bleed
heart colour into the light sapwood, taking away some of
the rich purplish-brown seen in air-dried wood. Walnut burls
and crotches are in demand for their very attractive figure.
