4/4 Rough Cut Bloodwood Lumber

What a beautiful colour -  deep orange and red!

Also known as Satine - Bloodwood is most often a deep crimson. Heartwood is a bright, vivid red. Color can darken to a darker brownish red over time with exposure to light. Applying a thick protective finish, and keeping the wood out of direct sunlight can help slow this color shift.

It is very dense and heavy - but that means it finishes well and can be nicely polished! Expect it to be a bit hard on your bits and tools but it is worth the trouble. Most often used in furniture, guitars and other instruments, inlays, handles, and turnings.

***Bloodwood is prone to cup/twist so we always recommend that is best used for smaller pieces and projects. You are unlikely to get a straight board so be prepared for some processing.

Although these boards have been skipped dress to show colour and grain, they will still require some TLC and additional milling

What can you expect?

We use this term to describe boards that require additional milling. Rough Cut Lumber have been run through the planer to show the grain however they have not been dressed. You will need to mill both faces and edges. Rough Cut Lumber are available in specific lengths with varying widths.

For example: 4/4 x 6" x 24”

You will receive a board that is just shy of an inch thick, with a width in the range of 5-6”, and is 24” long.

S4S Lumber

Who are they for? These are ideal for those who aren’t equipped with the necessary tools to flatten and straighten boards.

The term “surfaced” or "dressed" refers to a piece of wood that has been milled. To achieve the necessary dimensions, we select a larger board to work from. Both faces and edges are then surfaced so you can be assured that the board is flat and straight. These boards are available in specific sizes.

For example: 3/4” x 5-1/4” x 24”

Great looking wood, sharp a$$ slivers

Great wood was shipped, it wasn’t perfectly straight as expected but was one of the best pieces I’ve seen. Didn’t take too much milling before I could use it but beware the slivers are brutal and fester quickly.
