Maple Cutting Board Blank

Design your own cutting board!

A Canadian classic! Maple trees may provide us with delicious syrup, but they can also bring a stunning creamy colour to your next wood cutting board. Our Maple cutting board blanks are 1-5/8" thick x 24" long and come in 3 widths:

  • 3/4"
  • 1"
  • 1-1/4"

This blank has already been kiln dried and dressed on 4 sides, so it’s immediately ready for gluing and clamping. Combine with our premade domestic or exotic cutting board packs - or put together your own combination with the other 6 wood types we carry!

Dimensions are +/- 1/4" of size listed.

We recommend using Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue for a sturdy and waterproof bond between your cutting board blanks. If you want a mess-free application, we also recommend using the Titebond Glue Brush to make the process a little easier.

We recommend using Honey Bee's Natural Wood Cream for a long lasting and food safe finish. Made with only 2 ingredients - pure beeswax and 100% food grade mineral oil - this soft paste is easy to spread and will protect and enhance the natural beauty of your next creation.

Do you hate trying to pry your cutting board off the countertop, but don’t have a router to form handles on your piece? Our Bumper Feet can help give your cutting board the lift it needs to be easy and comfortable to use.

Colour and Workability

Courtesy of The Wood Database:

Unlike most other hardwoods, the sapwood of hard maple lumber is most commonly used rather than its heartwood. Sapwood color ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish brown. Fairly easy to work with both hand and machine tools, though slightly more difficult than soft maple due to hard maple’s higher density.

Maple has a tendency to burn when being machined with high-speed cutters such as in a router. Turns, glues, and finishes well, though blotches can occur when staining, and a pre-conditioner, gel stain, or toner may be necessary to get an even color.
