One of our most popular wood species for live edge charcuterie boards is Ambrosia Maple. The beauty of this wood is no two pieces are ever the same. How does this wood get its unique characteristics? It's actually a fungal discolouration caused by boring ambrosia beetles. Don't worry, though. All our wood is properly kiln-dried, so those little bugs are long gone! This unique wood is a joy to work with and also engraves nicely. It's a popular wood choice for those wanting to customize their cutting board with a logo or saying. The dark contrast of the laser works well with the light wood. We also offer Ambrosia Maple in wood slabs for larger projects and thicker surfaced lumber for furniture building.
It is very common for wood charcuterie boards to have cracks or splits, especially on wood like Olivewood. Boards with these characteristics are actually quite desirable. You can fill the voids with coloured epoxy or combine clear epoxy with coffee grounds for a more natural aesthetic. P-Tec, a wood repair paste, is also an excellent option to stabilize these voids.
River designs are a very trending concept. This is achieved by joining two boards with a space in between to create a river effect. We even carry River Table Sets to save you the trouble of cutting your own.
