Although these boards have been skipped dressed to show colour and grain, they will still require some TLC and additional milling. If you would prefer to have the milling done for you - check out our S4S Roasted Bird's Eye Maple Lumber.
*We always try to include the widest boards we have available at the time that meet the Rough Cut Lumber Pack specifications. Approximate board count is based on an average size of 6" x 48". As the name suggests, Bird's Eye Maple has varying numbers of tiny knots that are considered a growth anomaly. Other than the unique figure, the wood colour is identical to that of Hard Maple. It presents a beautiful amount of chatoyance that makes the surface dance when finished. The figure is reportedly caused by unfavourable growing conditions for the tree. The tree attempts to start numerous new buds to get more sunlight, but with poor growing conditions the new shoots are aborted, and afterward a number of tiny knots remain.
Like Hard Maple, Bird's Eye maple can be prone to tearout with dull tools. The figure only adds to the difficulty. A sharp plane, scraper or sanding are the best ways to surface this wood.
The majority of this figure will be found in veneer form and is prized by fine furniture and cabinet makers alike.
Great selection and fast shipping. Nice grain, lots of eye's in my premium Birdseye
The roasted Birdseye maple is perfect For the main body or to trim my specialty boxes.
One of the two boards I ordered has a large brown heartwood streak covering 70% of the board making it completely unusable outside of shop furniture or painted.
This material is a game-changer in the world laser engraving! The quality of the plywood is exceptional, with a perfectly smooth, perfectly flat surface (no surprise here) that makes it a joy to work with. The finish feels a little plastic, but I understand it’s an acrylic coating over the maple fibre, which I love. Even laser-fog burn marks wipe off with a damp cloth — no masking needed. The maple grain is pronounced and it cuts cleanly and sands beautifully. 100% will purchase again.
These work well with my Festool 125 RO in the fine mode as they leave no sanding marks compared to non festool discs.
Very satisfied....the oak grain was beautiful...milling was A1 and glued together with no problems....will buy from here again
