Known as Walnut’s country cousin, Butternut is closely related to black walnut and is a joy to use. Due to a fungal disease, there is a rapid decline in the species and the tree is protected in Canada. The color ranges from light to medium tan with contrasting grain lines that form distinct patterns. The sapwood is a pale-yellow color. The grain is fairly coarse and has a natural luster.
Butternut is wonderful to work with hand and power tools, although its softness can lead to fuzzy surfaces left behind by planing and sanding. Make sure your tools are sharp or work through to finer sandpapers.

Working with Thin Lumber
Working with Thin Lumber
4" and wider thins are resawn from a board thick enough to produce 2 pieces and then planed down to a finished thickness of 1/4". This milling process releases tensions in the board and may well induce slight cupping and/or bowing in the finished piece. These movements are normal and not considered "defects". They will not be grounds for a return or refund.
Having used typical shop vacs from both Shopvac and Ridgid I could not believe the difference in performance, efficiency, noise level, features and dust extraction capability of the Festool CT MIDI I. After attaching the MIDI to my Milwaukee track saw, I couldn’t see any dust anywhere which was quite a departure from what I have been accustomed to. Yes, the Festool is pricey however if you value your lungs and you insist on highest level of dust extraction capability, then it is worth every single penny spent to buy one.
