Hard Maple lumber is a popular choice - syrup not included!
Maple sapwood usually ranges from white to creamy off-white with a fine, even textured grain. There are many types of figure often seen including curl, bird’s eye and quilted grain patterns.
Maple works well with both machines and hand tools. However, it is quite unforgiving when planing against the grain and is prone to burning if your saw blades or router bits are dull.
It doesn’t get any more Canadian than this! With so many varieties of figure and dependable creamy color, this wood is a favourite for sure. The hardest of the maples and the tree that gives the sap to make tasty maple syrup.

Working with Thin Lumber
Working with Thin Lumber
4" and wider thins are resawn from a board thick enough to produce 2 pieces and then planed down to a finished thickness of 1/4". This milling process releases tensions in the board and may well induce slight cupping and/or bowing in the finished piece. These movements are normal and not considered "defects". They will not be grounds for a return or refund.
I recently ordered a number of pieces of 8/4 rough cut lumber. Most of the shipment was fine - the maple is really high quality. There was a problem with a couple of the board shipped to me, but KJP's customer service took care of it quickly and to my total satisfaction. I've ordered from KJP a couple times and I will be a repeat customer. Their product is excellent and their customer service is exemplary.
