Features & Benefits

An uncomplicated plane - This Small Router Plane is a versatile yet uncomplicated tool. The minimalistic design makes it easy to disassemble for maintenance and reassemble for work. The knurled fixing knobs are very accessible with a very smooth action. The blades depth of cut is adjusted by simply loosening the fixing knobs and sliding the blade into the required position.

50-degree straight blade - The MTC Small Router Plane is a unique router plane. Unlike many other router planes, the blade is made from a straight square section of HSS steel set bevel-down in the plane at 50 degrees - the blade bevel is only present to relieve the cut. This provides you with a very effective angle of attack suitable for all types of trenching work, and a router plane that is extremely easy to sharpen.

M2 High Speed Steel blades -  MTC has chosen M2 High Speed Steel (HSS) for the blades. M2 HSS has high abrasion resistance which means it will hold a sharp edge much longer than many other steels. This also means that it may take a little longer to bring up an edge. Don’t worry, you will be leaving your sharpening gear on the shelf for a lot longer too.

I returned the blade because I thought I had ordered a low angle jointer plane blade.

I asked if KJP could provide a return label. The agent sent me a PDF of the label and did not say that I would be responsible for shipping. I was charged over $10 for shipping. If I had been informed of the shipping fee, I would have kept the blade since I do have a jack plane.

Hi Pedro,

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for any confusion regarding your order. We understand that you were looking for a low angle jointer plane blade and accidentally ordered the low angle jack plane blade. Usually, when a customer makes an ordering error, they are responsible for shipping fees and we offer a full refund instead of a partial. We apologize if this was not communicated clearly to you. Please let us know how we can assist further.

Excellent for the price

I've been using the block plane for a few months now, and I'm very impressed. Build quality is extremely solid - sole is flat, sides are square, mechanism functions perfectly. Fit and finish isn't as polished as a premium brand like Veritas, but much better than other budget options like (new) Stanley, Pony -Jorgensen, or spear and Jackson. There are some slightly rough edges here and there but I didn't have to do anything to it other than sharpen the iron to get excellent results. Only potential downside I can see is that the irons seem to be relatively soft - edge retention is okay, but doesn't seem much different from most O1 blades I've used.

All in all, I'd definitely buy this again, and I plan to buy a MTC low angle jack once I have the money to spare.

Ready to go out of the box

I read several reviews for both planes and finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase the set. I’m glad I did! I’ve been very pleased with the quality of workmanship and the fact that they were ready to use right out of the box.
