Purpleheart is a colour shifter to be sure. When freshly cut, it’s a greyish, purply brown colour but after some time it becomes the eggplant colour we all recognize. Further exposure to UV turns it dark brown with a hint of purple.
Not known for its easy workability, Purpleheart can dull tools moderately and can become gummy if cutters are dull or causing too much heat.

Working with Thin Lumber
Working with Thin Lumber
4" and wider thins are resawn from a board thick enough to produce 2 pieces and then planed down to a finished thickness of 1/4". This milling process releases tensions in the board and may well induce slight cupping and/or bowing in the finished piece. These movements are normal and not considered "defects". They will not be grounds for a return or refund.
I have been teaching woodworking for 30 years and have found that kgp wouldn't work is one of the best suppliers. Their staff is very knowledgeable and very professional. The lumber is second to none in terms of quality. I will definitely be buying from them again and would recommend to anyone who want a good quality wood by from kjp

Great wood
Boards are nice and straight. A couple passes through the drum sander and I'm ready to work. No planer needed.

Beautiful wood!
It has been a great experience working with purple heart. All it one of my pieces were laminated purple heart and maple. I knew it was hard but didn't expect it to be quite so dense and hard as it was. That made the hand sanding lot of fun (note of sarcasm). But I enjoy the entire shaping process I only wish there was a place to display the work on the website.
Having used typical shop vacs from both Shopvac and Ridgid I could not believe the difference in performance, efficiency, noise level, features and dust extraction capability of the Festool CT MIDI I. After attaching the MIDI to my Milwaukee track saw, I couldn’t see any dust anywhere which was quite a departure from what I have been accustomed to. Yes, the Festool is pricey however if you value your lungs and you insist on highest level of dust extraction capability, then it is worth every single penny spent to buy one.
