8/4 Osage Orange Lumber
Can be used for staves and bows - but also a beautiful wood for woodworking!
Despite the name, it’s not really orange…more of a golden to bright yellow. Over time the wood darkens to a medium brown. Osage Orange is a difficult wood to work with because it is extremely hard and dense. It turns very well and has no issues with gluing or finishing.
Osage Orange is a gnarly tree that often has a crooked trunk that makes it almost impossible to use as long clear lumber. That being said, the wood is very stable and bends without breaking which explains its use by bowyers.
Our dimensional stock usually originates from Argentina and often has longer and clearer sections.
Although these boards have been skipped dress to show colour and grain, they will still require some TLC and additional milling. If you would prefer to have the milling done for you - check out our S4S Osage Orange Lumber.
