The torrefaction process turns the wood a beautiful chocolate brown and the curl can range from tight to loose (sometimes called flame). Oil finishes will make this flame figure jump out of the surface which will draw the eye. We’ve seen some beautiful furniture and decorative objects made with this wood. It’s somewhat difficult to find, so grab some while it’s in stock!
If you would like to do the milling yourself - try our 4/4 Rough Cut Roasted Curly Birch Lumber for a more budget friendly version.

S4S Lumber
Who are they for? These are ideal for those who aren’t equipped with the necessary tools to flatten and straighten boards.
The term "surfaced" or "dressed" refers to a piece of wood that has been milled. To achieve the necessary dimensions, we select a larger board to work from. Both faces and edges are then surfaced so you can be assured that the board is flat and straight. These boards are available in specific sizes.
For example: 3/4” x 5-1/4” x 24”

For example: 4/4 x (5-6”) x 24”
You will receive a board that is just shy of an inch thick, with a width in the range of 5-6”, and is 24” long.
Wow! What a great wood! The color is fantastic and the smell is like campfire meets cocoa powder! I had never heard of "roasted lumber" before but this birch is great to work with. It is dark all the way through and cuts well even with a semi sharp blade. A nice cost effective dark wood for projects and the grain was decent.
The roasted birch was great, nice end grain on it, went through the table saw very smoothly. The colour seems very uniform throughout
I'm a beginner and so far I've found this to be easiest type of wood to work with
As more of a general comment, my entire order was very well packaged (appropriately sized box, plenty of packing paper, bubble wrap etc.)
Will order here again in the future
The Roasted Curly Birch is beautiful and finishes very well
