S4S Yellowheart Lumber - Thick

Yellowheart is one of the few hardwoods that doesn’t lose the colour vibrancy that you see after aging.

What is Yellowheart? It is actually Portuguese for ‘yellow wood’ and is a beautiful wood from Brazil. Also known as Pau Amarello, this wood works well with both hand and power tools though areas of interlocked grain or figure can pose challenges. It can have a moderate dulling effect on tools and has an odour that is an acquired taste. As the name suggests, Yellowheart has a rich pale to golden yellow colour that only darkens slightly with age. You can expect some pink and/or brown tones in our latest selection. It is commonly used for accents on furniture, flooring, boatbuilding, and turned objects. A little bit goes a long way with this bright wood!

If you would like to do the milling yourself - try our 8/4 Rough Cut Yellowheart Lumber for a more budget friendly version.

Using yellowheart

I make a variety of charcuterie boards and use yellowheart in between darker woods! Once oiled, the yellow wood jumps out quite nicely! I will continue using it!

Not super impressed

Bought two boards of yellow heart prior and the were ok. Not great...a few small insect holes in both boards...nature of the beast i guess. Needed 3 more this time around. Even worse. A rotton knot 8 inches long with insect holes in one board and what looks like part of the same knot in another board which has a bad warp and twist. Haven't had problems with other lumber from kjp but this wasn't great.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're sorry to hear that your recent purchase of 4/4 Yellowheart Lumber was not up to your expectations. We understand that the presence of insect holes and a knot with rot and warp can be frustrating. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We have missed the mark on this one and we appreciate your feedback.

We will make sure to add a credit to your account. Thank you for choosing KJP, we hope to do better in the future.

We are still waiting for both the yellowheart and purpleheart. Still no date from the shipping company on missing package that is apparently holding up the delivery. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER.

S4S Lumber

Who are they for? These are ideal for those who aren’t equipped with the necessary tools to flatten and straighten boards.

The term "surfaced" or "dressed" refers to a piece of wood that has been milled. To achieve the necessary dimensions, we select a larger board to work from. Both faces and edges are then surfaced so you can be assured that the board is flat and straight. These boards are available in specific sizes.

For example: 3/4” x 5-1/4” x 24”

Rough Cut Lumber

Who are they for? These are ideal for those who enjoy working with machinery or hand tools to mill their own boards.

We use this term to describe boards that require additional milling. Rough cut lumber have been run through the planer to show the grain however they have not been dressed. You will need to mill both faces and edges. Rough cut lumber are available in specific lengths with varying widths.

For example: 4/4 x (5-6”) x 24”

You will receive a board that is just shy of an inch thick, with a width in the range of 5-6”, and is 24” long.
