Ambrosia Maple Thin

Wormy Maple is one of the most unique types of wood!

What is Ambrosia Maple lumber? Well it's not actually a species - but rather two things that happen to the wood when it has been infested by the Ambrosia beetle! The most obvious is the tiny holes from the beetle boring through, but it also leaves some interesting streaking caused from a fungus it carries on it's legs. Of course it goes without saying all our lumber is kiln dried and these visitors are no longer an issue!

There can be a variance from batch to batch in terms of how much streaking we get - but we do try our best to send you the boards that have the most character. In regards to the tiny holes - they will need to be filled and it's a great opportunity to try our P-Tec Wood Filler

Great for crafts, scroll saw work, intarsia, chip carving, laser engraving, and much more! These boards are flat, straight, and ready for sanding.

In order to offer more protective packing for shipping - our lengths are often 1/4" less than sizes listed. Need a wider width or longer length? Please email us for a quote. Custom millwork charges will apply.

my order review

overall i was please with the order, delivery time, quality of product etc...
i was very disappointed in what was supposed to be mahogany that I received. this was not at all what I wanted. I received what is often referred to as lauan or philippine mahogany. this product shouldn't be sold as mahogany.

Hi Mark,
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We're glad to hear that you were overall pleased with your order, including the delivery time and quality of the product.
However, we apologize for any disappointment with the type of wood you received. We try to be very clear in the item description that this is African Mahogany (Khaya), the most commonly traded Mahogany on the market these days. It is not Lauan - that is a totally different species.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention - we will reevaluate the language and description on the website with our web team.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We appreciate your business.

Excellent - great cedar, maple, poplar and hickory. Delivery service from Canpar was terrible.

Working with Thin Lumber

4" and wider thins are resawn from a board thick enough to produce 2 pieces and then planed down to a finished thickness of 1/4". This milling process releases tensions in the board and may well induce slight cupping and/or bowing in the finished piece. These movements are normal and not considered "defects". They will not be grounds for a return or refund.
