Yellowheart Thin

Yellowheart is one of the few hardwoods that doesn’t lose the colour vibrancy that you see after aging.

What is Yellowheart? It is actually Portuguese for ‘yellow wood’ and is a beautiful wood from Brazil. Also known as Pau Amarello, this wood works well with both hand and power tools though areas of interlocked grain or figure can pose challenges. It can have a moderate dulling effect on tools and has an odour that is an acquired taste. As the name suggests, Yellowheart has a rich pale to golden yellow colour that only darkens slightly with age. It is commonly used for accents on furniture, flooring, boatbuilding, and turned objects. A little bit goes a long way with this bright wood!

In order to offer more protective packing for shipping - our lengths are often 1/4" less than sizes listed. Need a wider width or longer length? Please email us for a quote. Custom millwork charges will apply.

We will provide you with a 1/4" thick x 3" wide or 4-3/4" wide x 24" long, high quality thin board! These boards are flat, straight, and ready for sanding.

Working with Thin Lumber

4" and wider thins are resawn from a board thick enough to produce 2 pieces and then planed down to a finished thickness of 1/4". This milling process releases tensions in the board and may well induce slight cupping and/or bowing in the finished piece. These movements are normal and not considered "defects". They will not be grounds for a return or refund.

The wood was fantastic. The project I used it on I gave as Christmas gifts and they loved them. The wood stood out in the project.

Yellowheart Rough Cut Lumber

I recently received 5 pieces of Yellowheart (5" x 3') of the 5 pieces only two can be used. The other 3 don't come close to resembling the picture shown on the website. One is riddled with insect damage (bore holes) the other two an orange/brown grain with weathered gray streaks. I spoke with Natalie at KJP who said that should be expected with an exotic wood like Yellowheart. There is nothing on the website which states "don't expect the wood to look nothing like the picture shown". She did refund me "as a one time courtesy" $40.00 or 20 percent of the price for 60 percent of the wood that cannot be used. She also said she could send me another board but "I shouldn't expect it to look any different". KJP is great if you live close by and can go to their retail outlet and sort through the lumber, mail order, don't take the chance. I learned a costly lesson and will never order by mail through them again.

Nice yellowheart with color variation

Dimensionally very sound (no warp or twist) but with considerable color variation. I would have preferred pieces with uniform yellow color.
