5 Projects You Can Make This Father’s Day

Here at KJP Select Hardwoods, we started as a family business, and we still put effort into celebrating family every chance we get! Whether you’re related by blood or not, we would like to take this Father’s Day to celebrate any and all father figures present in our lives - and we have some ideas of how you can do it!

Workshop Sign

Ideal for any fatherly craftsman, a workshop sign can add a special touch to anyone’s workshop. Whether it’s created using our craft plywood or TruFlat Laser Plywood on a laser cutter, or engraved on any of our live edge pieces, this sign is sure to bring a little bit of home into your father figure’s workshop.

A sign doesn’t have to be just for a workshop, though. Does your Dad prefer working on cars? Does he have an art studio or music room he prefers to spend his time in? A sign can be personalized to fit anyone’s needs, from the room it designates, right down to the colours it includes! Get creative and create something that perfectly suits Dad’s interests.

Beer Tasting Flight Board

Calling all craft beer lovers! We highly recommend making a beer flight board for any beer-loving father figure. You could choose from any one of our 40+ wood species to create the perfect flight that matches the aesthetic that your Dad prefers, or even get creative and glue-up multiple species into a magnificent creation totally unique to the recipient. We may not be able to provide the beer, but we can certainly give you the tools and inspiration needed to bring this idea to life!

Have some extra wood and time? Why not try making a matching bottle opener to go with the tasting board! Any of our wood can be turned or carved into the handle of your choice, with bottle-opener hardware being quite simple to attach. Even a small offcut could be just enough to work into a handle, so it’s the perfect addition for any summer-loving Dad who enjoys sitting back and enjoying a cold beverage.

Serving or Cutting Board

Perfect for any foodie! At KJP Select Hardwoods, we love cutting boards. We proudly sell two different varieties of cutting board packs perfect for creating a handmade project with minimal stress and tools required. Our domestic cutting board pack contains maple, cherry, and walnut blanks that have been planed to S4S perfection (ready for gluing and clamping!), while our exotic cutting board pack contains purpleheart, black limba, and padauk. We also sell individual cutting board blanks for folks who want to have more freedom in the design of their cutting board. Want to take it one step further? Many public libraries have laser-cutting machines available for public use. Why not engrave your cutting board with a special message just for dad?

Charcuterie boards aren’t just for cheese anymore! Creating a beautiful live-edge serving board using one of our serving handle templates can be an excellent gift for any dad who loves grilling, as it serves as the perfect resting place for a nice steak! Know someone who likes to prepare the entire meal? We’ve seen some spectacular works from our customers creating shadow boxes to remember the biggest moments in life. Chess Board

Does your father figure love the game of chess? Why not create a personalized chess board just for them! The possibilities are endless, and you can create a nearly infinite number of combinations of wood species to create a stunning contrast within your board with a simple glue-and-clamp job. However, you could also try swapping half the squares out in favor of using epoxy resin to fill the space with a striking colour.
