The heart wood of this wood is a beautiful light pinkish brown when freshly cut and darkens to a rich medium reddish brown as it ages and is exposed to light. The sap wood is a creamy pale-yellow colour and there are occasional dark red/black pitch pockets.
Cherry is coveted by furniture and cabinet makers for its easy workability and even colouring. Even curly or figured pieces plane and machine well.
