How is Plantation Teak different than Burmese Teak? For one, it is grown more rapidly so the younger smaller wood is more prone to checks and movement. It also does not have the same silica content which partially contributes to its rot resistancy. And because it often will have more knots - that means there is more grain movement/direction which can lead to water accumulation on horizontal surfarces.
So although Plantation teak does not technically perform as well as Burmese teak - it does do reasonably well in those similar conditions and at about 1/3rd of the price! That alone should be a reason to consider it on your next project!
The heartwood is golden to medium brown and darkens with age. Plantation teak does tend to have more sap wood present so you should expect a higher contrast in colours.
Although these boards have been skipped dress to show colour and grain, they will still require some TLC and additional milling. If you would prefer to have the milling done for you - check out our S4S Plantation Teak Lumber.

S4S Lumber
Who are they for? These are ideal for those who aren’t equipped with the necessary tools to flatten and straighten boards.
The term “surfaced” or "dressed" refers to a piece of wood that has been milled. To achieve the necessary dimensions, we select a larger board to work from. Both faces and edges are then surfaced so you can be assured that the board is flat and straight. These boards are available in specific sizes.
For example: 3/4” x 5-1/4” x 24”

Not impressed with the shipment I received, the 12x12 was not 12x12, off an 1/8 to a 3/16 on both sides and the peices were very warped and not flat
