8/4 Rough Cut Poplar Lumber

What is Poplar good for? It's a great option for projects that need staining or painting!

What does Poplar lumber look like? No two boards are ever the same. You'll find anything from a light cream tone, to green or dark purple streaking throughout. Although Poplar is on the softer side, it surprisingly is actually a hardwood! You will enjoy working with Poplar as it's great with hand tools and power tools. It's not the best choice for projects that require durability or strength, but it is a fantastic utility wood. Enjoy working with one of our most popular woods!

Although these boards have been skipped dress to show colour and grain, they will still require some TLC and additional milling. If you would prefer to have the milling done for you - check out our S4S Poplar Lumber.

S4S Lumber

Who are they for? These are ideal for those who aren’t equipped with the necessary tools to flatten and straighten boards.

The term “surfaced” or "dressed" refers to a piece of wood that has been milled. To achieve the necessary dimensions, we select a larger board to work from. Both faces and edges are then surfaced so you can be assured that the board is flat and straight. These boards are available in specific sizes.

For example: 3/4” x 5-1/4” x 24”

Poplar - a great choice in woods

The poplar I received from KJP was very high quality, nice grain, and a good weight. It weighed approx. 2.75lbs per bd/ft. There were none of the "green" tones that give poplar a bad rap. (although if there was, that's easily fixed by leaving it in direct sunlight for a while-the green turns brown) Very happy with it, I'm sure I'll be getting some more. KJP shipping got it here in good time too, which is a huge plus with me.

8/4 x 48" Poplar Project Board

Very good quality wood. Straight, reasonably even in colour (for Poplar, that's good) and well priced. Delivery was fast too. I haven't milled it yet. It will become a newel post for a 7' stainless steel cable stair railing. The post will be painted which is why I opted for Poplar. I also bought several 1/4" x 3" x 24" project boards and they are awesome. Flat straight and great grain (walnut, cherry, poplar). I will definitely visit when stores open up to the public.
