For turners who are just getting started and want to try three of our more popular Exotic species, or for anyone looking for some savings - this pack is for you. We will provide you with 3 x high quality turning blanks in Mahogany (1), Paduak (1), and Purpleheart (1) in the dimensions of your choice. Our 2" blanks have already been kiln dried and are ready to be "turned" into your next great project!
We recommend using Honey Bee's Natural Wood Creamfor a long lasting and food safe finish.
We can sometimes accommodate a larger blank than our standard sizes. Please email us for availability and a quote.
Dimensions may vary +/- 1/4" as we often prefer to lightly skip dress the turning blanks to reveal grain & colour. Some blanks may also come with waxed faces and ends.
Courtesy of The Wood Database:
Mahogany : Easy to work, glue, and finish. Tearout can sometimes be a problem if the grain is interlocked.
Padauk : Overall Padauk is easy to work; tearout may also occur during planing on quartersawn or interlocked grain. Padauk turns, glues, and finishes well.
Purpleheart : Working with Purpleheart can present some unique challenges: if the wood is heated with dull tools, or if cutter speeds are too high, Purpleheart will exude a gummy resin that can clog tools and complicate the machining process. Depending on the grain orientation, can be difficult to plane without tearout. Purpleheart also has a moderate dulling effect on cutters.
I always get quality material from KJP!
Beautiful colors, excellent grain and no visible knots.
Will definitely order again.
Very nice wood. Looking forward to working with it. Very happy with my purchase. I’ll be buying from KJP again soon.
a very nice piece of wood . Cuts nice with slight tear outs. sands well and finishes very nice. will buy again.
straight and true. First time using Iroko. Outdoor mostly sheltered area. Not Teak but still quite pricey. KJP is a great company to deal with, like a candy store for wood
Not impressed with the shipment I received, the 12x12 was not 12x12, off an 1/8 to a 3/16 on both sides and the peices were very warped and not flat
