S4S Katalox Lumber
Katalox wood is often called Mexican Royal Ebony!
These are beautiful and unique pieces! The heartwood starts off a brownish purple but oxidizes to an almost black. This is contrasted nicely with creamy white sapwood. Often used as substitute for Ebony on account of just how dark the wood is - but it is not a real ebony!
It is very dense and heavy - but that means it finishes well and can be nicely polished! Expect it to be a bit hard on your bits and tools but it is worth the trouble. Most often used in furniture, guitars and other instruments, inlays, handles, and turnings.
