Basswood Carving Block - 4" x 7" x 18"

16/4 Basswood Carving Blank

Are you looking for a nice and easy white wood for hand carving? Basswood is an ideal species for both beginners and experienced carvers! In general, Basswood is considered to be even easier to carve than a pumpkin! Our team of dedicated woodcarvers will carefully handpick a basswood carving block that is approximately 4" x 7" x 18" long.

Please note that dimensions may vary +/- 1/4" as we strive to deliver a smooth carving block with minimal imperfections.

Colour and Workability

Colour and Workability

Also known as Lime wood, this North American species has a smooth, fine grain which allows for detailed carvings with minimal tearing or resistance to sharp tools. This wood is light and soft, making it easy to work with, but also prone to dents and marks if not handled with care. Basswood is known to hold glue and finishing products well, but it does not hold nails well due to its soft nature.

Done carving and ready to finish? Our Livos Natural Oil Finish works wonders for brushing on, or dipping more intricate pieces when ensuring complete coverage for all nooks and crannies. This finish can be applied in multiple coats without sanding your delicate carving, and provides exceptional shine and protection.

If you’re carving something for use with food - such as a spoon or other utensil - we recommend our all-natural Honey Bee’s Natural Wood Cream.

2x2x6 basswood 9piece pack

Ordered 2 packages of 9 pieces each ( 2x2x6”)
Nice looking wood arrived really white and carves really nice.
Of the total 18 blocks I received 3 are not usable for carving in the round but may be able to get triangle ) peices out of them. They have either knots or large gouges out out of them
Won’t stop me from ordering again.

good quality carving wood and timely delivery

wood blocks came as promised. I find these blocks a little easier for carving than some other sources I have used. It is good that they have some large dimension blocks available, looking forward to using them.

good quality carving wood and timely delivery

wood blocks are clean and grain is true. I find this basswood a little better for carving than other sources I have used. Will probably purchase again until I harvest my own basswood.
