Black Walnut wood is a fan favourite of furniture makers in North America!

Black Walnut’s heartwood ranges from pale brown to a dark chocolate brown. It is also known for having a red, purple, or grey cast and the sapwood ranges from pale yellow to almost white. It can present grain patterns like curl, crotch, and burl.

The rich brown colour is unmistakable and pieces that live near sunlight lighten to a dark honey colour. The wood also has good dimensional stability, shock resistance, and strength properties making it an easy choice for most woodworkers.

In order to offer more protective packing for shipping - our lengths are often 1/4" less than sizes listed. Need a wider width or longer length? Please email us for a quote. Custom millwork charges will apply.

We will provide you with a 1/4" thick x 3" wide or 5-1/4" wide x 24" long, high quality thin board! These boards are flat, straight, and ready for sanding.

The wood came eirly and in good condition.

Wood was quite straight, but also mostly sapwood.

Wood arrived just as described, one piece an inch or so less wide than the other. I didn’t measure, but It’s possible both were over the 4 1/2 inches mentioned, so I might’ve just gotten extra. But both pieces had a very large amount of sapwood.
