Sweet Gum Bowl Blank

We will provide you with a high quality Sweet Gum turning blank. These blanks are sealed with wax as they are still drying. Once the wax is removed, please use caution in order to maximize the quality of the bowl blank. Possibly cracking may occur.

We recommend using Honey Bee's Natural Wood Cream for a long lasting and food safe finish.

Dimensions may vary +/- 1/4" as we often prefer to lightly skip dress the turning blanks to reveal grain & colour. Some blanks may also come with waxed faces and ends.

Wide sapwood is whitish to light pink or tan color, and is sometimes referred to as “sapgum” or “sweetgum.” Heartwood is gray to reddish brown, and is commonly referred to as “redgum.” Generally easy to work, though planing can produce tearout due to interlocked grain. Sweetgum is known to warp and distort badly during initial drying. (After initial drying, distortion is significantly less, but the wood still experiences an appreciable amount of movement in service.) Turns, glues, stains, and finishes well. Responds moderately well to steam bending.
